Victim Support Cover

Forensic and Immediate Medical Costs

A clinician in a consultation room

In the hours and days after a crime, the medical system can leave gaps that fall to you. This benefit reimburses the difference between the Medicare Benefits Schedule and what you actually pay for forensic medical examinations, private emergency department treatment, diagnostic imaging, prophylactic medication, and consultations with specialist sexual health physicians. There is no excess on this benefit.

What is covered

  • Gap payments for forensic medical examinations (including where you elect a private forensic practitioner)
  • Private emergency department and urgent care attendance fees
  • Specialist sexual health and infectious disease physician consultations
  • Post-exposure prophylaxis, emergency contraception and pathology not bulk billed
  • Diagnostic imaging and dental treatment arising from the incident
  • Ambulance transport where you are not otherwise covered

What is not covered

  • Treatment that is fully bulk billed or reimbursed by Medicare or a private health fund
  • Elective or cosmetic procedures not related to the incident
  • Treatment received more than 12 months after the incident date
